Planning Your Visit
What to Bring
We're located in a remote location, ideal for getting away from it all, but that does mean you'll need to plan ahead and bring the essentials, including groceries. We're 30 minutes away from the nearest restaurant or grocery store and the selection is often limited.
Groceries
We do not provide food. For the lowest prices and broadest selection, we recommend stopping in the Central Valley. But if you forgot something or are in a pinch, the Village Store in Yosemite Valley is about a 30 minute drive away and carries meat, dairy, produce, kitchen basics, frozen foods, etc. although with a limited selection.
If arriving via Hwy 140, there are plenty of options in Merced, Turlock, or Modesto. The last full sized grocery store is Pioneer Market in Mariposa.
If arriving via Hwy 120, there are plenty of options in Modesto or Oakdale. Or there is a smaller grocery store in Groveland.
If you're driving in early and want to drop off groceries before check-in, let us know and we may be able to accommodate. Do not leave food in your car as it attracts bears.
Don't forget:
Coffee & tea (coffee filters, coffee grinder, and coffee machine provided)
Condiments & spices
Around the House
While we do our best to provide a well-equipped house and kitchen, we care about the environment and try to avoid too many single-use items. We recommend bringing any consumable items that you may want for your stay, including:
Cling wrap & foil
Ziploc bags (some reusable storage containers provided)
Paper towels (limited supply provided, hand towels provided)
Restaurants
If you want a night off from cooking, try the following restaurants in the Valley, all located about 30 min away. Be sure to check availability.
Ahwahnee Hotel – formal dining room and a more casual bar
Mountain Room – dining room
Base Camp Eatery – casual grab and go
Curry Village Pizza Deck – casual pizza spot
Degnan's Kitchen – sandwiches and snacks
Getting Here
Foresta is located off of the Big Oak Flat Road on the north rim of the Valley. From the nothern Bay Area/Sacramento, we recommend using highway 120 to Big Oak Flat Road, weather permitting (in snowy conditions it may be better to use highway 140). From the southern Bay Area, we recommend highway 140. From southern California, you may use highway 41 or highway 140.
Detailed directions to the home will be provided prior to your stay.
